PhD student Hailey Shanovich wins top prize at ESA conference

Hailey Shanovich received a President's Prize (1st place, graduate poster, Behavior and Ecology Section) at the 2021 national meeting of the Entomological Society of America in Denver. Her research poster focused on "Nut factors driving abundance and ovipositional preference of the hazelnut weevil (Curculio obtusus) in hybrid hazelnut." The win comes with a small cash prize and complimentary membership in ESA next year.

While in Denver, Hailey was also an invited speaker in a joint symposium hosted by the Acarological Society of America. Hailey was the lead speaker in that session and profiled her work with big bud mites and their phenology.
